"I am a woman; when I think, I must speak!" -Rosalind, As You Like It

Shakespeare knew what was up. I don't think men have changed much since Shakespeare's time. Let me humor you for a moment. I would like to describe a few qualities of Demetrius from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Tell me if this doesn't remind you of a guy (or many) that you know.
1. proud/arrogant
2. a player
3. rude
4. threatens girls by being a creeper
5. sketchy
6. tries to steal another man's woman
7. pretends to love a girl

{ Here is Demetrius as played by Christian Bale}

My sister, who just studied this play in her Shakespeare class at BYU hooked me up with some great quotes that illustrate Demetrius's nasty ways.

Proud? "I say I love thee more than he can do!" 3.2.225

A Player? "Demetrius - I'll avouch it to his head - Made love to Nedar's daughter, Helena, And won her soul, and she, sweet lady, dotes, Devoutly dotes, dotes in idolatry Upon this spotted and inconstantman." 1.1.106 (Lysander)

"To her [helena], my lord, Was I betrothed ere I saw Hermia."4.1.168 (Demetrius)

Rude? "I am sick when I do look on thee." 2.1.212

A Creeper? "Let me go; Or if thou follow me, do not believe But I shall do thee mischief in the wood." 2.1.235

Tries to steal another man's woman? "Where is Lysander, and fair Hermia? The one I'll slay, theother slayeth me." 2.1.188

Pretending? "A sweet Athenian lady is in love With a disdainful youth. Anoint his eyes; But do it when the next thing he espies May be the lady." 2.1. 260 (Oberon to Puck)

"O Helen, goddess, nymph, perfect, divine! To what, my love,shall I compare thine eyne?" 3.2.137 (Demetrius under the love potion...liar)

I think we could all compare and contrast Demetrius to some guy(s) we know. Why do guys have to be like that? I wish they would be a little more like Orlando {As You Like It} sometimes.

{Orlando as played by David Oyelowo}
