brain-dead today
you know that awkward moment when your professor (aka the smartest man in the world) asks you what your favorite book is, and all of a sudden your mind goes blank and you can't think of a single title, let alone if you actually know how to read or not?
and then 5 minutes later you are able to think of at least 20 great books you have read that all would have been great answers?
hashtags that would be appropriate in this scenario: foreheadslap, starstruck, dumbdumbgeorgemichael

P&P
i have had a lot of homework this semester.
the good news is that some of it has been pretty wacky.
like, adapting a piece of literature to a social media platform.
advice: don't try to make 10 new facebook profiles in one day, or mark zuckerburg will shut you down.
the wall machine saved our bums on this one.

school
i'd rather not pester you lovely people, but i have a weird favor to ask of all of you.
i had an assignment for one of my classes, and one requirement was to post it on a social media platform and ask for feedback.
the assignment was to pick a part of ourselves that we identify with, then find a piece of media/art/whateva that represents it. we then had to figure out what parts of the existing piece doesn't reflect our views, and then manipulate it to reflect our identity better.
here's mine:
i picked the fact that i did ballet and other dance for a lot of years. when i was younger, i thought i would be doing ballet forever, and would end up teaching it or something similar. i still somewhat identify as a dancer, because i did it for so long, and thought i'd be doing it for much longer.
i took this degas painting and repurposed it to reflect my current views of dance. it's a really exclusive world. you have to start it early and be committed. you can't very easily stop doing ballet, and then expect to just start it up again after taking a hiatus (like i did). i still love ballet and dance so much, but i don't necessarily fit in that world anymore.
now, feedback? it's part of the assignment to ask for some. i welcome whatever you guys want to say about this, even criticism!
you guys are the besssst.

impossible dream
i wish i videotaped my film professor lecturing during classes all semester. i'd love to go back and listen to all his cool thoughts again. he is so smart and has such good insights when it comes to film and art, and just life in general. not to mention he is hilarious and totally sarcastic. i really liked something he said a few weeks ago. paraphrasing:
"a lot of times people don't like musicals or operas because they aren't realistic. people think, 'ok, no one really bursts into song when something great or something confusing happens. people don't act that dramatic or cheesy in real life'
...don't you think the people who write the musicals and operas are aware of that? i think they know that it's not realistic. but can't these things just exist for the sake of art and creation?"
- dean duncan
he's so right. i'll be sad when this class ends. but the good news is, he's one of the professors over the film department. so please bless i get in when i apply in the winter.
i've been loving this song lately. it's from a musical called man of la mancha.

miike.
i registered for winter classes last night at midnight.

i flipped to the back of my planner to plan it out on the blank calendar. I saw where I planned out my fall schedule. And also this:

I guess I heard that song when I was planning my fall schedule.
I looked it up and remembered why I wrote it down. It's good.
I recommend writing down the songs you really really really like. Because you can go back later and make a rockin playlist that you love. That's what I do. And this song made the cut.

estaba pensando...lo bien que se siente...tener un bigote...
me encanta este video. es muy chistoso.
i have an oral spanish exam tomorrow.
the main problem with these exams is that it makes the teacher notice all the vocabulary words and grammar technicalities that you forgot and they fail to notice that you understand spanish fluently and actually speak it quite well. i mean, if i can understand that video without the subtitles, what more do i need to know? am i right?
oral exams...boo.
true or false:
jessie loves college.

totally unrelated:
i'm in love with almond joys. i'm addicted and i just can't get enough.
and last night i found out that jcw's makes an almond joy shake! i gotta try one of those as soon as possible. i'll probably die from delicious overload.

i take good notes...
i always doodle cross-hatch lines all over my notes.
i have since like the 4th grade.
my sister kylie pulled out her notes today and showed me how she is so bad because she doodles while taking notes.
and i saw that her paper was covered with cross-hatch lines all over the margins as well.
we both do it. so weird.
then later she looked up an interpretation and texted it to me:
"cross-hatching doodles are an indication of needing to break away from 'the man.' these doodles show a severe need to escape a controlling environment." so that's our diagnosis.
that is so us.

declared.
I declared a major today. it was rather like this:
"i just wanted you to know... you can't just say the words "film major" and expect anything to happen."
"i didn't say it, i declared it."
i still have to apply for the program...
but hey, i made a decision. this is good.
lots of office references on this here blog lately. sorry about it.

it's a day worth documenting
a stranger asked if he could sit by me in class.
he said he liked my keds.
i said liked his mustache.
i was walking up the stairs in my building as someone was falling down them.
"uh.. are you ok? ok good, see ya.."
a girl came up to me and, in all seriousness, said,
"hey, can i borrow your phone for a sec? i just dropped mine in the toilet."
i laughed a lot. but not out loud.
i kicked a bird.
rather, it flew out of a bush and into my foot as i was walking by.
it scared the ish out of me.
oh, and i finished my homework before midnight.

backpack backpack
today, i started the "cleaning out the room for college" process by cleaning out my backpack, which went into the closet sometime mid-may and wasn't touched until today. some treasures i found:
several permission slips/disclosure documents. good thing i turned those in...
$26. my refund from the financial office.
$1. from mr. deans. he gave it to me for being the smartest in my government class. favoritism?
a piece of paper where i practiced forging nate greenwood's mom's signature for him.
our kpgr christmas card.
a crunched up heath bar.
the page of the best mr. newman quotes, courtesy of nathan church.
a map of the world that danny harding gave me. i'm going to hang it up.
a note from danny harding, which was attached to our homecoming pictures. very poetic:
a picture is worth a thousand words. our homecoming memories are worth a million.
oh, high school. you were good to me.
i'm thrilled that i don't have to go back though.
